Australia


"Australia" is an epic romantic adventure and action, which in that country on the brink of an explosive Second World War. In an English aristocrat (Nicole Kidman) travels to the distant continent, where she meets a rough-hewn local (Hugh Jackman) and reluctantly agrees to cooperate with him to save the land they inherited.

Together, they embark upon the transformation of a journey through hundreds of kilometers of the world's most beautiful yet unforgiving terrain, but still face the bombing of the city of Darwin by Japanese forces attacked Pearl Harbor. With his new film, Luhrmann is painting a huge canvas, creating a cinematic experience that brings romance, drama, adventure and spectacle.

Movie Trivia

- Russell Crowe is attached as the lead during the pre-production. 20th Century Fox executives wanted to reduce Crowe's salary considerably, in order to appease the film's budget. This decision required him eventually abandoning the project.

- Heath Ledger is shown in this movie, but dropped out to play The Joker in The Dark Knight. Luhrmann eventually set actor Hugh Jackman for the role.

- Two other titles that he considered for the film were Great Southern Land and remote Downs.

- In October 2007, but it was also revealed that the set of remote Downs were reconstructed in the studio, presumably for the interior footage in the homestead.

- Strickland House is a publicly traded real estate fund that heritage located in Vaucluse, near Sydney. Strickland House doubled as Darwin's Government House in the movie.

- In December 2006, Bowen was chosen as the location for the filming of one third of production, a picture of the look of Darwin.

- In April 2007, Kununurra was chosen as location for Australia another, this time to serve as a remote control Downs, the homestead owned by Kidman's character.

- On August 11, 2008, eight months after filming wrapped, some members of the cast and crew were able to look back at Fox Studios, Sydney, filming pick-up shots.
